Yeah, that's par for the course. I grew up in the 70s and they lambasted Zep every chance they got. Music critics suck.

level 2

Music critics really are the worst. Even when their reviews are positive, they come off as smarmy and irritating. Pay no attention to them. The lowest form of journalism.

level 1

i swear that 80% of music critics are bitter, middle-aged men whose bands never made it, and now they take their frustration out on successful musicians.

level 1

:D Well that's Rolling Stone for you, they don't know a good thing! They hated Rush until Jann Wenner reluctantly had to let them into the RRHOF, and now Rush can do no wrong... Check back in 20 years! :D

level 2

Yep. And to add to that, Rush's first album is extremely Led Zeppelin, it's a good album, but look how much more amazing they became, yet they didn't give Rush as much shit (as far as I know) than they do GVF.

level 2

none yet! i've been checking. hopefully they'll just stay quiet, haha.

level 1

I mean... they weren't wrong about Stardust Chords being the best song on the album. Absolutely love it!

level 1

Critics' bread and butter are negative reviews. The more pretentious, the better.

level 2

I feel the quote from ratatouille of all things is relevant here

"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so."

Rolling Stone swears in their album reviews now?

In an era where 'WAP' wins song of the year, who cares about critics or reviews or anything?!

level 1

Do they actually expect us to believe that their reviews are unbiased? Yeah sure just as much as the Grammy's aren't about who gets the fruit baskets...

level 1

They gave it 3/5 so they didn't dislike it

level 1

Rolling Stone always choose to hate everything so they can never like something bad. There is no positives to anything in their eyes. Unless it's a classic rock band making a comeback then they love it.

level 1

It's Rolling Stone, being hated by them is a badge of honor

level 1

I dont get the Rush comparisons, especially regarding the vocals. Both singers have bright tones and thats about all you can say. I hear little sections that remind me of Rush sometimes, but the actual songwriting is completely different.

level 1

Someone should review the rolling stone. Absolute dog shit outlet.

level 1

I was told rock fans are always rocks biggest critique. They beg for new artists and once once comes along, they bash every single thing about them.

level 1

Yeah not only that but they don't even get their facts straight. The guitar riff on Built by Nations is similar to The Ocean not Black Dog. I really don't care either way. If I enjoy listening to it it doesn't matter to me where they got their inspiration from. There are so many other artists/songs that are blatant ripoffs that GVF pale in comparison.
